The STRT Team!
Member
01 At the core of the STRT team are our hard-working members. Each STRT member is an invaluable piece of the STRT team that performs the critical operations of traffic control and safety while on scene.
02 STRT members will be given an allotment of traffic cones, a radio, a traffic vest, scene tape and flares. POV (Personally Owned Vehicle) lighting is at the expense of the member and must conform to minimum visibility standards.
03 The first step in the training process of a new member is the Observation Phase. During this phase, new members will respond to calls with the supervision of an experienced team trainer and simply observe. This gives new members a better understanding of what we do and what to expect.
04 The next step is the On-Scene Training Phase: This will involve the new STRT member assisting experienced STRT Trainers on scene in setting up and removing cones, laying out flares and many other functions. You will be placed at locations in varying levels of complexity, under supervision.
Trainer
01 Once an STRT member has satisfied all the requirements to become a fully trained STRT Team Member and has performed many various callouts gaining expertise on-the-job, there may be an opportunity for you to become an STRT Trainer.
02 The Specialty Traffic Response Team training program is designed to meet the individual needs of each new member. The STRT Trainer will prepare the Trainee from the initial observation phase all the way through to becoming a fully, self-sufficient member.
03 During the Observation Phase of training, the Trainer will perfom his/her job as normal while the Trainee simply observes the process.
04 During the On-Scene Training Phase, the Trainer will fully interact with the Trainee and perform the job process while supervising and discussing all aspects of the scene setup, safety and operations.
Dispatch
01 The primary function of an STRT Dispatcher is to provide a conduit between MetroComm dispatch and STRT Team Members when an incident occurs. Dispatchers must possess a strong working knowledge of all the Metro 400 codes to properly interact with LVMPD
02 Dispatchers will be scheduled for a specific time period each week and will work out of their home with a mix of personal and STRT provided equipment. Must be able to work full 12-hour shifts with extreme attention to detail and coordination with LVMPD.
03 A personal cell phone with text capabilities and a computer with internet capabilities are required to perform the dispatch position.
04 The STRT Dispatcher will ultimately be responsible for the incident call details from the intitial dispatch callout all the way through completion and clearing of the scene.
